Girl Crush: Shoe Designer Sarah Flint

Sarah Flint is the Founder, CEO, and Designer at Sarah Flint Inc, a direct-to-consumer shoe line that is quickly becoming a house-hold name for shoe aficionados across the country. We first spotted her classic pumps and flats on Meghan Markle, and then shortly after, Cindy Crawford. We investigated further, and it was like stumbling across a gold mine. We asked Sarah to show us how she transitions from day to night with her gorgeous shoes and Loren Hope jewels, and if we do say ourselves, they are a perfect pair (pun intended). Read on to learn more about Sarah, her company, and lastly- enjoy a treat from the Sarah Flint team!

Where are you from?

I grew up in Lincoln, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston.

Do you have a favorite spot in New England?

I love the Buzzard’s Bay area, just below Cape Cod, where my family visits every summer. We bike to farm stands and eat amazing food – ice cream, lobster rolls, fresh fruits and veggies. It’s a short boat ride over to Martha’s Vineyard, and the sunsets are truly stunning! It’s a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of life in New York City.

Do you have a go-to uniform?

I like to switch up my daily uniform based on the shoes I plan to wear. I love to pair a flat with skinny jeans and a button down top for a more casual look, or I wear a fitted dress with a 50mm pump if I have a busy day of meetings.

How do you transition from day-to-night on the go?

To transition from day to night, sometimes I will switch from flats or a shorter pump to a higher heel, like our 100mm Perfect Pump, but more often than not I stick with my flats. Flat's with evening looks are actually some of my favorites!

Favorite way to accessorize?

Of course I love a great, statement making pair of shoes. I’m also a big fan of fun colored handbags, and bright jewelry that accentuates a simple black dress or gives an extra sparkle to jeans and a t shirt.

Favorite part of your job?

It is incredibly rewarding for me to design shoes that inspire and excite my customers, and that might improve their day-to-day lives. I’m grateful every day that I have been able to shape my brand in a way that celebrates and embraces women. 

We love your fearless tagline “Walk Like a Woman” - can you tell us a little more about what “walk like a woman” means to you?

Walk like a woman is about never choosing between being feminine and powerful—because to be one is to be the other. Sarah Flint shoes are distinctly feminine in their detailing, but at the same time they are built with fit and function in mind to make women feel like the most confident and powerful versions of ourselves.

What’s been the most valuable piece of career advice you’ve received?

Don’t be afraid to knock on every door. Put yourself out there, see what you can do, and be persistent.

What do you do to get out of a creativity rut?

I take design days as often as I can because getting out of the office unlocks new ideas. I also love to travel, and find inspiration both in new places and revisiting places that I love.

For someone who’s new to your brand, what’s the first pair of Sarah Flint shoes she should own and why?

I would recommend the Emma Pump. It is one of our most popular styles as it combines both timeless elegance and every day function. It works for the office, drinks, date night, and everything in between. The Emma is a 50mm pump, my favorite height, and has a V-shaped vamp for the perfect amount of “toe cleavage”. 

Alright, saving our favorite for last - If you could have dinner with any 3 people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

I would have dinner with Sara Blakely, Michelle Obama, and Jane Austen. Each woman is a trail blazer in her own right and has paved new roads for women through their work.
