An evening in Newport: Picnicking with Jess Kirby at “Dior & I” with Newport Film
Last Thursday, Jess Kirby of Prosecco and Plaid invited me to enjoy a beautiful Summer evening in Newport with Newport Film for an outdoor screening of the new “Dior and I” documentary, following Raf Simmons as he conceptualizes, produces and debuts his first couture collection for Dior.
Newport Film hosted a “chicest picnic” contest (which we did not partake in, and thank goodness because we wouldn’t have stood a chance) for the event and let me tell you, the event was nothing shy of chic. Ladies and gentlemen showed up in their best bow ties and summer dresses and sprawled blankets, lanterns, flowers and accoutrements along the lawn of Doris Duke’s breathtaking historic mansion that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.
Once the sun went down, the movie started and the crowd watched in awe, mesmerized by glimpses of the inner workings of the House of Dior. Seeing Raf’s creative process was so cool. I loved learning that many of the ateliers at Dior have been there for 20 to 40 years. They are a family and are so passionate about what they do. Their love and dedication to the art of haute couture was so inspiring. At the end of the night the stars had come out and were shining bright as we packed up our picnic and headed home. Jess wore her Sarra Cuff in Crystal, Mara Bracelet and the new Hex Link Bracelet in Cobalt (coming soon for Fall!).
Summer in New England is truly magical. If you haven’t had a chance to venture to the RI coast when it’s warm, you must put it on your list!
XO-
Loren
